Trees and Shrubs
Stapleton naturally has a very clay-like soil that is great for growing some types of trees/shrubs, but not others. Below are some tips and resources for selecting, purchasing, planting and caring for your trees & shrubs.
- As much as us Coloradans love our Aspens, they can usually be trouble with how quickly and sporatically their roots grow. Be cautions if planting this type of tree that it isn't too close to your house or sprinkler lines.
- Water long enough to moisten the roots. Usually this means 15-20 minutes. If you're watering at too short an interval the tree/shrub won't absorb much.
- Trimming back dead branches/flowers actually helps the plant more than it hurts. Now it can focus it's energy on keeping the rest healthy and not
- Lawnmower: You can get a great price on a lawnmower with a Honda engine at Wal-Mart.
- The water coming out of your sprinkelers is most likely not-potable...meaning don't drink it. Be careful of little ones out playing.
Lawn Care

- Try to water in the early morning. You won't lose any water to heat, your lawn will have time to absorb the moisture and it won't be left wet overnight when it's most prone to disease.
- Water long enough to moisten the roots. Usually this means 15-20 minutes. If you're watering at too short an interval the grass won't absorb much.
- Don't cut more than 1/3 of the total length of your grass. Cutting shorter than this puts a strain on your grass.
- Lawnmower: You can get a great price on a lawnmower with a Honda engine at Wal-Mart.
